The Librarian, by Russell Conover

(Originally posted to LinkedIn.)

During the day, she sat quietly at her desk, checking materials in and out, helping visitors, and so on. She was helpful, if not really engaging. And if anyone got on her bad side? “SHHHH!” Then she pointed to the “Quiet, please” sign.

No one at the library disliked her, but no one embraced her as a friend. One Friday afternoon, the visitors left at 5 as usual.

Then the librarian cranked up the music, started singing karaoke, and showed a side no one had seen. She was a different woman. Too bad no one was there to see it.
