The Motivational Workshop, by Ian Fletcher

Behind the charm, the fake smile, there’s something reptilian about him, Larry thinks.

He feigns interest in the two-hour workshop, unpaid, attendance compulsory.

The reptile, a smarmy thirty-something ‘consultant,’ preaches about “teamwork” “being the brand” “showing the customer your passion.”

“Try it on a zero-hour contract where negative comments from customers can cost you your livelihood,” thinks Larry.

12:00 noon. Phew! It’s over.

“Oh, one more thing,” says the reptile.

“I’ll be joining you today.”

“What?!” thinks Larry.

“I hope to give you all – and your supervisors – some feedback on how you’re doing.”

“God have mercy,” thinks Larry.
