The Garden of Eden, by Marlene Goldberg

Sunlight filtered through the dense brush as Eve pranced over the stepping stones, inhaling intoxicating fragrances. Flowers bloomed in hues almost blindingly brilliant: daffodils, daisies, bougainvillea, hibiscus… Luscious fruit lunch labeled by shape or taste; uprooted vegetables edible raw; or cubs and kittens to cuddle. Paradise. Adam provided nomenclature. But G-d forbade them to eat from the Tree of Knowledge.
“G-d said touch the Tree of Knowledge, you’ll die,” said Eve.
Snake pushed her. She didn’t die.
She picked, tasted, gave Adam the forbidden fruit.
Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden of Eden. Death and pain entered earth.
