There’s Religion and There’s Religion, by Ann-Louise Truschel

On the Sunday before Christmas, the minister announced that his wife and children had driven to Missouri where they’re from and that he would fly out to join them late on Christmas Day.

After the service I asked him to join myself and my friends for Christmas dinner if he had no place to go. He accepted.

After Christmas Eve service, however, he said he’d been able to get an earlier flight and wouldn’t be coming to dinner.

I gasped, “You mean we canceled the stripper for nothing?!”

He smiled, patted me on the shoulder and said, “We can reschedule.”
