Sweet Dreams by Gordon Lawrie

At first it sounded like the wind was tapping branches on the living-room window; but the noise persisted and, curious, I drew back one of the curtains.

Pressed hard against the glass, a white two-dimension figure silently screamed Munch-like at us. It was trying to get in, but the window was sealed. Pulling back other curtains revealed white ‘screamers’ everywhere, trying to enter through non-existent gaps – for now we were all safe.

Then we heard a scream from upstairs. A fanlight was ajar in the bathroom. We rushed to the kids’ bedroom.

What we saw there made our blood freeze.
